The focus of the Associate Chaplain's Program shall
be demonstrated in a concern for the patient as a whole
person, including the elements of body, mind, emotions,
spirit, and human relationships.
The mission of the Associate Chaplains Program is to
be responsive to the Pastoral Care needs of the patient
and family, while at the same time providing a spiritual
presence to the patient care team.
Goals

The goals of the DRMC Associate Chaplain Program are:
1) To provide a comprehensive range of inpatient Chaplaincy
services within the parameters of the overall DRMC mission
and budget and to educate the community of these services.
2) To respond to the spiritual needs of the terminally
ill, bereaved families, families of patients in the
Emergency Room, Surgery, and Critical Care areas as
well as the spiritually troubled or unchurched patient.
3) To serve as a bridge between DRMC and the religious
community, promoting a spirit of mutual understanding
and cooperation.
4) To recruit, select, train, and provide peer review
for such volunteers, ministry and laity, to accomplish
the purposes of the Associate Chaplains Program.
5) To advise DRMC Administration and/or Board on any
matter of concern related to the spiritual welfare of
patients, family members, and staff.
6) To develop and implement chaplaincy programs based
upon documented gaps in spiritual services which are
needed for patients and families within the parameters
of DRMC's mission and budget.
Expectations

1. Chaplains maintain a commitment to uphold the professional
standards and practices of Danville Regional Medical
Center (DRMC) Chaplaincy Program and the Code of Ethics
of The Association of Professional Chaplains in all
patient and staff relationships.
2. Patient and Medical Center confidentiality is managed
with no breaches of patient confidentiality.
3. Chaplains must respect the religious faith and practice
of patients and staff.
4. Chaplains have recognition, acceptance, and mutual
respect for appropriate professional relationships between
the Chaplain and the patient, other ministers, physicians,
and DRMC staff.
5. Chaplains always provide the care he/she has volunteered
on the day scheduled unless he/she has made other arrangement
with an approved and oriented Associate Chaplain and
has notified the DRMC Pastoral Care Department of the
necessary change.
6. Chaplains have an understanding and self-acceptance
of his/her professional strengths and weaknesses as
a Chaplain and makes appropriate referrals.
7. Chaplains are expected to accept personal and ethical
responsibility for the maintenance of these expectations
and voluntarily resign if and/or when these professional
obligations cannot be met.
8. Chaplains are expected to have a TB test administered
by a nurse at Employee Health.
