The advanced program for LPNs provides an opportunity for LPNS to obtain a diploma in professional registered nursing approximately one year after enrollment. The credentials of applicants for admission to the LPN-RN Track will be reviewed on an individual basis. Because the number of applicants may exceed the number that can be admitted, the Nursing Program will select those candidates who present the strongest qualifications and potential as reflected in the applicant record.
The School of Health Professions Nursing Program reserves the right to select those applicants who seem best qualified for the LPN-RN Track based upon the entire applicant record.
Must have worked full-time for one year as a LPN. Documentation of work is required. Employment in an Acute Care or Skilled Long Term Care facility is preferred.
Nursing license must be in good standing and unrestricted.
• Submit application (with application fee), transcripts, and references and have completed the interview by August 1.
Completed ALL of the college pre-requisite courses with a C or better. (Exception: If student will be taking MDL 195, this can be completed after enrollment, along with N100.)
Completed the Nursing Acceleration Challenge Exam PN-RN successfully. This is a two-section exam. A Decision Score of 65 is required for passing on both sections. The first section is Foundations of Nursing for which a Decision Score of 65 is required. The second section is a two-part exam, inclusive of Nursing Care During Childbearing and Nursing Care of the Child. A score is given for each part and these two scores are averaged to reach a final Decision Score for this section, which must be 65.
Applicants who have completed the above application process and have completed most of the required courses may schedule appointments to take the NLN Nursing Acceleration Challenge Exam PN-RN. The tests will be administered in the late summer and fall. Each test may be repeated one time if needed to obtain the required Decision Score of 65 for each section. The testing, including repeats, must be completed by February 1. The current cost of this testing is on the Financial Requirements Sheet available through the Nursing Program.
The current cost of the Study Guide for the Nursing Acceleration Challenge Exam PN-RN is $5.00. It must be paid with the application fee when the application is submitted. Review books for the tests are on reserve in the School of Health Professions library and may be checked out for a two-week time period.
Applicants to the LPN - RN Track will be considered for acceptance one time only. If applicants to the LPN Advanced Program are denied admission or fail repeats of the Acceleration Challenge Exam I, they will not be considered for acceptance a second time for admission to the LPN Advanced Program. Applicants will not be permitted to take either section of the challenge exam a third time. The start month for the LPN-RN Track will be near the end of March of each year.
