THINK FIRST for Teens is presented at no charge to junior and senior high schools. This program educates teens about personal vulnerability and risk taking behaviors. The underlying theme is that you can have an exciting life and you can do it without harming yourself if you "THINK FIRST."

THINK FIRST is designed to bring an understanding of the causes and consequences of brain and spinal cord injuries. The program also teaches ways to prevent such injuries. One of the ways the program does this is through the video "On the Edge." This short video shows how thin the margin is between fun experiences and tragedy. It also shows young men and women sharing their different injury experiences.

THINK FIRST uses a local neurosurgeon to explain to young adults the anatomy and physiology of the human body and what happens to the body during and after a traumatic injury. In addition to the neurosurgeon, an injured speaker discusses his/her injury-related experiences.

THINK FIRST also uses supplemental activities such as Drunk Driving goggles, wheelchair obstacle course, and demonstrations from local emergency medical technicians.

If you would like more information about the THINK FIRST for Teens program please contact Wendy Dunevant, Think First Chapter Director, 142 South Main Street, Danville, Virginia, 24541, (434) 799-4460.
