Summer's a busy time - don't forget to give blood!
from Better Health magazine, Summer,
2005
"Summer is one of our slowest times, and our blood
inventory can get very low," said Jackie Jones,
Blood Donor Coordinator at the Danville Regional Blood
Donor Center. "Everyone's so busy - vacationing,
holidays, summer activities - that giving blood is a
low priority." But it's certainly not a low priority
at the Medical Center.
"Research
shows about sixty percent of the local population is
eligible to donate, but only five percent actually do,"
she said. "The two main reasons people do not donate
is that they just don't think about it, or they're busy
with every day responsibilities. Yet, we all depend
on it to be there for us and our loved ones when we
need it."
The blood donated through the DRMC Blood Donor Program
helps people in our community. The Center is conveniently
located in the Danville Regional Professional Building,
located on the DRMC campus. Donations are accepted between
8:30 and 4:00 on Monday, Thursday, and Friday, and from
10:00 to 5:30 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Blood Donor Program also has a Mobile Unit that
goes out about twice a week to local businesses, industries,
schools and churches.
"Here in the Dan River region," Jones noted,
"one in every five people admitted to our hospital
will need blood. We cannot meet the needs of our community
without you!
