Foundation House: A Home Away from Home.
from Better Health magazine, Summer,
2004
It's been in the planning for more than three years.
And now it's finally open. We're pleased to announce
the opening of the Foundation House, a home away from
home for families of critically ill patients at Danville
Regional Medical Center.

"The building is perfect in so many ways,"
said Margie Wilkinson, Executive Director of the Danville
Regional Health Foundation. "It's adjacent to the
hospital. There's no way we could have done this any
closer. And its six bedrooms, each with a private bath,
allow us to serve a number of families at the same time.
At our recent open house, the community got to tour
the facility and see its appealing common areas and
living quarters."
Wilkinson notes that the Foundation House is a notable
listing on the register of historic homes. "The
home was built about 1910 for the owner of a local clothing
store," she said. "Since then it's had many
uses, most recently as construction headquarters for
the firm that built the Heart Center of the Piedmont."
Priority for the Foundation House will go to families
of critically ill patients and to those who have to
travel more than 25 miles to the hospital. "But
our case managers will have some flexibility when vacancies
exist," said Wilkinson. "The Foundation House
is here to serve, and whenever a family is in crisis,
we want to be ready to meet their needs."
