Our New MRI Combines Clear Images with Patient Comfort
from Better Health magazine,
Summer, 2004
Danville Regional has just installed our new MRI (Magnetic
Resonance Imaging) machine from Siemens Medical Solutions,
and it's already a hit with patients and physicians alike.
The $1.5 million investment is popular with patients because
it alleviates the claustrophobia that some experienced
with our previous magnet that was built into the wall.
It's well lit, and pleasantly ventilated. Heavier patients,
who were sometimes unable to be served before, are accommodated
much more readily with our new machine. The new MRI automates
all imaging processes, so exams can be completed more
quickly.
"The biggest question everybody asks is, "Why didn't we
get an open magnet?'" Computed Tomography and MRI coordinator
Sandra Bayes said. "The answer is simple: We already
have an open magnet at Danville Diagnostic Imaging Center,
our outpatient facility. The closed magnet gives better
images and is more appropriate for a hospital setting."
These improved images will help physicians observe damage
to joints, the spine, and the vascular system with greater
accuracy than ever.
