DRMC Technology Attracts Attention of National Media
from Better Health magazine, Fall, 2004
Danville Regional Medical Center has taken the
lead in improving patient safety by investing in advanced
technology, such as our Med Administration Check System.
This Pioneering program has brought us national attention,
most recently in New York City on October 13. Clinical
Systems Manager, Patsy Sublett, MSN, RN-C, joined Siemens
Medical Solutions president Erich Reinhardt and Newt
Gingrich, former Speaker of the U. S. House of Representatives
and a thought leader in improving healthcare, to explain
this exciting technology to the national press.
"In demonstrating the Med Administration Check
System for Mr. Gingrich and the press," Sublett
said, "I was able to explain that we've documented
an average annual savings of $800,000 due to increased
efficiency, while preventing an average of 116 potential
medication errors each month."
"Representatives from all the national healthcare
trade press were present, as well as several national
health reporters. They were impressed by how our MAC
System verifies the five 'rights' of drug administration
- the right medication, right dose, right time, right
route, and right patient.
Sublett is pleased that Danville Regional has received
recognition for technology leadership. "Our administration
is constantly looking towards the future in providing
healthcare excellence close to home. The people of the
Dan River Region benefit as a result. I'm happy to be
out there telling that story."
