A Message from Our President
from Better Health magazine, Winter, 2003

February
is American Heart Month, a fitting time for us
to share with you the many types of treatments
for heart disease available at Danville Regional.
In response to our community's need, we've expanded
our cardiac services to make it easier and more
convenient than ever for you to care for your
heart.
Heart disease is often thought of as a man's
problem, but it is the number one killer of women
as well. More than 227,000 women die of heart
disease each year in the nation - more than five
times the number of women who die from breast
cancer. This year, February 1 marked Women's Heart
Health Day across the nation to bring attention
to the impact of this equal-opportunity disease.
In March, we will open our open-heart surgery
center, The Heart Center of the Piedmont. This
center is the culmination of years of planning
with one ultimate goal, to bring full-service
cardiac care home to the people of the Piedmont.
Our affiliation with Duke University Health System,
the addition of Henry Tripp, Jr., M. D., to our
medical staff, and a first-rate surgical facility
and staff add up to a significant milestone in
the history of our hospital and its service to
the community.
Join us for a community open house to celebrate
the beginning of our open-heart surgery program,
to be held Sunday, March 16 from 1-4 p.m. Tours
and refreshments will be provided. We can't wait
to share our excitement with you.
Sincerely,
Warren E. Callaway, FACHE
President and Chief Executive Officer
Danville Regional Health System
