President's Remarks
from Better Health magazine, Fall, 2003
The world of medicine is always changing, and it's important to us at Danville Regional Health System (DRHS) that the people of the Dan River Region always benefit from cutting-edge technology. That's one reason we're so pleased to participate in so many clinical trials, giving our patients access to treatments and medications that are only available to select researchers. Our physicians are energized about advancing new treatment practices in their field, and participating patients realize advantages in their care, which they would expect to find only in larger cities.
In the recently released annual report card from the Future of the Piedmont Foundation, the region's health statistics remind us all that the Dan River Region has some behaviors to change if we're to improve our health. All of us at DRHS are committed to educating the public about the consequences of smoking, improper diet, and lack of exercise. We're optimistic about the future of this community, and we're committed to doing all that we can to change those statistics by encouraging our patients to practice a healthy lifestyle.
As noted in our update in this issue, we've now treated approximately 100 open-heart surgery patients in the Heart Center of the Piedmont. I hope you share our pride in our accomplishment of providing the most comprehensive cardiac care in one location. We hope you never need this service; but if you ever do, isn't it good to know that outstanding care is available so close to home?
Sincerely,

Warren E. Callaway, FACHE
