The Joy of Volunteering
from Active & Healthy
magazine, Spring, 2001 |
Volunteering is a great way to share your knowledge
and time with your community. Studiies have shown that
bolunteers feel higher levels of self-esteem, control
over their lives, and general well-being. Whatever your
interests, there are opportunities waiting for you.
They exist in many fields, including education, healthcare,
yourth services, politics, the arts, recreation and
religion.. Here are just a few ideas:
Be
a foster grandparent.
Help
low-income people and infirm older adults with home
repair or everyday household tasks.
Mentor
underprivileged children.
Volunteer
at your local hospital.
Raise
money for nonprofit groups.
