Many ways to write down your thoughts and feelingsMany people enjoy journal writing as a hobby. This activity has more to offer than personal insight, though. According to many studies, journal writing can provide mental and physical benefits, including improved immune system functioning.

In one study, for example, people were asked to write for 20 minutes a day over four days. Some wrote about a stressful event from their past. Others wrote about trivial matters.After the four days, those who wrote about a stressful event reported fewer illnesses and better moods than those who wrote about trivial matters.

In two other studies, people also gained relief from writing about stressful experiences. Those with asthma and rheumatoid arthritis had fewer symptoms. Those with skin conditions, including acne and eczema, found them clearing up.

Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your writing time:
