Radon
is estimated to cause thousands of deaths each year.
Exposure
to this invisible, odorless gas is the second leading
cause of lung cancer in the the U.S. And almost
one out of every 15 homes in the U.S. is believed to
have high radon levels. Government experts recommend
that all homes, whether new or old, be tested for radon.
In multi-level homes, testing should be done on a level
below the third floor. Luckily, testing is easy and
inexpensive. Low-cost test kits are available at
hardware and home improvement stores.

Scientists
are now reporting that gum disease is a risk
factor for stroke. Their research involved almost
10,000 adults ages 25 to 74. Those with inflammation
of the tissues surrounding the teeth were significantly
more likely to suffer a stroke. Why? Probably because
of the effects of oral bacteria on other parts of the
body.
