A Healthier FUTURE Tomorrow from Better Health magazine, Spring, 1999
What children learn today shapes the future of the whole community. That's why Danville Regional Health System has made an ongoing commitment to make a difference in Children's lives - at school, at home, and in the community.
Partners in Education at School Through an innovative program called Partners in Education, Danville Regional
Health System works with area schools to develop health-related educational programs. "By making a two-year commitment to our partner school, we're able to build lasting relationships with students," said Kay Crane, Community and Media Relations Coordinator for Danville Regional Health System and coordinator of Partners in Education. "We feel that developing a long-term partnership with the school shows our commitment to the children and has a greater impact on their education."
Connecting with Kids at Home Danville Regional Health System's commitment to children reaches far beyond the classroom - right into living rooms throughout the community. Danville Regional Health System sponsors Connecting with Kids,
a series of TV news segments designed to increase awareness about problems facing children and teens today. Interviews with local and national experts cover a wide variety of topics including nutrition, depression, violence, injury prevention and drug and alcohol abuse.
Caring for Kids in the Community
The Health Express Van is a community resource that makes it easier for children to get the healthcare they need. Funded through a partnership program between Danville Regional Health System, the Danville City Public Schools and the Danville/Pittsylvania County Health District, the Health Express Van provides free immunizations to children on Saturdays at the Community Market during the summer months. Because the fully-equipped vehicle is virtually a medical office on wheels, the Health Express Van can travel to schools, to neighborhoods and wherever there is a need for medical care or health education.
The Children's Healthcare Center Another valuable resource for children is The Children's Healthcare Center which is new and which provides specialized healthcare for children of all ages. Stay tuned as we focus next month on this new addition to the care and well-being of the children of our entire region.
