When Warren Callaway became President and CEO of Danville
Regional in 2001, he saw an opportunity for the health
system to set its course in shaping the future of healthcare
in the Dan River region. To do that, he gathered the
hospital's leadership together to reevaluate its mission
and vision of the future.
"A mission and vision provides the framework to
help guide future management decision at the hospital,"
Callaway says."But at the same time, it needed
to be a shared vision - one that was fully supported
by the board of directors, the medical staff, and hospital
administration."
The result is a statement that returns the hospital
to its core values - Providing Healthcare Excellence
Close to Home.
"We want to focus on what this hospital does best,
and that means providing quality care, convenience,
and service,' says Callaway. "Over the next few
years we'll be taking a close look at how we can improve
in our role as community healthcare provider, and we'll
be focusing on these core areas."
Missions have become critically important to hospitals
since the Balanced Budget Act of 1997, when funding
cuts made it clear that hospitals everywhere needed
to keep a close eye on costs while maintaining quality,
says Callaway. "Our mission and vision will help
us meet nationally recognized standards of care, right
here in Danville," he says.
