Services: Databases

OVID Databases Available through the Internet from the library, as well as all DRMC workstations:
These databases are limited to DRHS affiliates and associates. Please remember to Logoff the database before exiting Internet Explorer!!!
Please call the Medical Librarian at x4418 for help in searching the Ovid Databases, or refer to the Help button located within the database.

MEDLINE : The National Library of Medicine's database of medical, allied health, dental and nursing literature, 1966 to the present.
CINAHL : Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature--the "Red Books" database.
Cancerlit : A database of oncologic literature produced by the National Cancer Institute which includes literature from Medline and proceedings of meetings, government reports, etc.
HealthStar : Health administrative/management type literature from American Hospital Association and National Library of Medicine.
Journals@Ovid : Full-text, fully searchable format of forty-six medical journals linked to Medline.
Evidence Based Medicine Reviews : Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) is the trend in health care to incorporate the best evidence from the medical literature when making patient care decisions. The EBMR database includes the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Best Evidence, and the Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness.

Online Catalog : The "card catalog" of books available in the Medical Library and the School of Nursing Library. Access to this catalog is available through DRHS workstations only.
BioMed Central: An independent publishing house committed to providing free access to peer-reviewed biomedical research.
DailyMed: Provides high quality information about marketed drugs, including FDA approved labels (package inserts).
Dietary Supplements Labels Database: information about ingredients in selected brands of dietary supplements.
DIRLINE: (Directory of Information Resources Online) an online directory of over 9,000 health-related organizations and other resources.
Dr. Duke’s Phytochemical & Ethnobotanical Databases from the Agricultural Research Service.
Genetics Home Reference
: Provides information in understandable language about genetic conditions and the genes related to those conditions.
Haz-Map: An occupational health and toxicology database designed to link jobs and hazardous job tasks to exposure to chemicals, and occupational diseases and their symptoms.
Health Services Research & Health Care Technology : Information products, services and databases relating to health services research. Databases include HSR Literature (formerly HealthStar), HSRProj (Health Services Research Projects in Progress), HSTAT (Health Services/Technology Assessment Tests), HSRR (Health Services/Sciences Research Resources) houses information about research datasets and instruments/indices, plus many more.
Household Products Database
: links over 4,000 consumer brands to health effects from Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) provided by the manufacturers and allows scientists and consumers to research products based on chemical ingredients.
International Bibliographic Information on Dietary Supplements (IBIDS)
: database of published, international, scientific literature on dietary supplements, including vitamins, minerals, and botanicals.
Merck Medicus : Medical portal for today's healthcare professional combines breaking medical news, a wide variety of online learning resources, cutting-edge diagnostic tools, and even the patient's perspective on the world of medicine.
NLM Gateway : A Web-based system that lets users search simultaneously in multiple retrieval systems at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). It allows users of NLM services to initiate searches from one Web interface, providing "one-stop searching" for many of NLM's information resources or databases.
POPLINE Database (POPulation information onLINE) : Provides citations with abstracts of the worldwide literature on population, family planning, and related health issues.
ProQolid : Patient-Reported Outcome and Quality of Life Instruments Database.
PubMed : National Library of Medicine's online database containing references and abstracts from 4500 biomedical journals. A tutorial is available for help on searching. In addition, Medline has now added a new publication type : Patient Education Handout.
PubMed Central : A digital archive of life sciences journal literature which is free and unrestricted.
PubMed Journal Browser : Browse the latest abstracts from a core list of twenty-eight clinical journals. Designed for PDAs, but is useful for anyone.
SearchEric : Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) database includes summaries of more than 1,200,000 documents and journal articles on education research and practice written since 1966.
Test Link: Test Collection Database : Over 20,000 tests and other measurement devices from the early 1900's to the present.
Toxnet : A cluster of databases from the National Library of Medicine on toxicology, hazardous chemicals, and related areas.
Tox Town : Uses an ordinary town to help users identify common environmental hazards and make connections between chemicals, the environment, and human health. It provides everyday locations where you might find toxic chemicals, non-technical descriptions of chemicals, links to selected, authoritative chemical information on the Internet, how the environment can impact human health, and Internet resources on environmental health topics

Mediated Searching

Although all library customers are encouraged to become comfortable with the end user systems available in the library, you may also request that a search from these systems be performed for you. These searches will be performed by a librarian following your description of your information needs. Please call x4418 for your request, and be as specific as possible about the parameters of your subject.

Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery Services

Materials not owned by the library can still be made available to library customers through Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Services. Please call the library at 799-4418 to request this service, providing as much information as known. The article will be ordered from another library through interlibrary loan (ILL). Please keep in mind ILL article charges average $11.00 each.

Books not available in our library can also be requested from another library for use by DRMC customers. These books are loaned to customers for varying loan periods, depending on the request of the lending library.

Since these services can require as much as several weeks to be completed, please plan your research needs accordingly, and request materials early. Patient care emergencies will be expedited.
